It was something i want to switch and was planning to do. One of my friend has climbed the ropes to very high and he is suggesting me the same thing. I am desperate to do that but I am not a person who takes decisions quickly. I am completing my homework for this and shall be doing that very soon.

I like to use options as part of my investments. It allows me to control more stock with my limited capital. But it is risky and does tend to make me worry a little more than just buying the stock.

Yes I am an options trader and I love it! I’m not rich yet but hopefully I will get there. Even if getting rich is not your goal I highly recommend one at least learns. Once you earn 100-300% on your money it’s kind of hard going back to earning 3% in a savings account.

I also posted on covered call options earlier: those interested in some more details might find that worth reading.

  • I would caution that it’s much riskier than holding the underlying equities, but can be much more rewarding and act as a hedge. For instance, yesterday, I had posted how the major indices crashed to record lows and my trading account was UP 16% inclusive of the long positions which fell. It was all due to the puts on QQQQ, SPY and UYG. I would just do a fair amount of research before getting into it to any significant degree.

Fantastic article.I found the article very interesting.Even though trading in the forex market can be quite risky and intimidating, it can also turn out to be worthwhile and even fun. Beginners forex trading should be aware of how the market works.

From 2008 January I switched to options trading and I saved a lot of my money from loss. I think the stock market will come to normal after April 2009, they we can join the race again.

  • My risk appetite is kinda conservative thats why I prefer Mutual Fund but I am so eager to learn stock investing…Thanks for posting it.

  • Option trading can create large gains, but it’s certainly not for everybody. Make sure you do your homework, and understand all the risks involved, before trading options.

  • I’ve traded options for years as a way to make using a swing trading method. The beauty of options is you know exactly how much money you are putting at risk since option trading does not require a margin account so no worry about margin calls.

Plus options trading allows people that don’t have the money to trade high priced stocks to actually make money off those same high priced stocks using leverage. I use emini trading as a way to make money daily, but options are a way to put money in the market for a few day to a few months and let it grow over a short period of time. It is recommended that new options traders find an established course as you suggest to learn the dynamics of the option market.

  • big risk and big reward. still remember sweating on that thursday of the month!

I’ve always been a bit hesitant to jump into options. With this market, I feel that I’m a bit out of my league.

  • Options are pretty tricky to deal with if you are speculating rather than hedging and even trickier to deal with this volatile market.

I have almost entirely stopped stock trading, because the returns are so slow. Also, the recent crash should have been a lesson to any “buy-and-hold” gurus! :-) Options trading opens up so many different strategies, with different risk profiles, that almost anyone can find a strategy that suits and still earn more than the gain of the S&P.

My favourite strategy is selling credit spreads. It is very low risk, is really easy to do, does not require a lot of technical analysis (spotting a trend is all you need to know, and there are some really good free resources that can do that for you) and I earn between 15 and 25% per month on my investments.

And for volatile markets – this strategy thrives on volatility!

  • We can always try but make sure that you are ready for the results whether it is positive or not. There’s always a risk in every business but knowledge is your best weapon to succeed.

They say this raise money fast. It needs big capital however, and the risk is also big. I find this commodity to be more confusing as compared to forex.
