Hi i stayed in Texas ,San Antonio for a while and i dint have such kind of service . There was only one energy provider. Great to learn this though!!!

De-regulation of the electricity in Texas is long overdue. I chose to find a provider (I live in Texas)that uses primarily renewable energy. More options for deregulated energy are popping up more frequently.

Any time I hear Deregulation of the electricity I cant help but be reminded of Enron.

Renewable energy is extremely expensive and polutes to constrcut (especially solar).

Hope this can happen to Malaysia too as presently it is being monopolized by certain corporation, and people have not much say on the way they performed.

Deregulation….. It doesn’t sound to great does it! there is a similar situtation in the uk right now.

Polutes to constuct?? ok… renewable engery is the only way forward, in the UK wee have tones of wind farms, wave power, solar & nuclear, ok it may only provide use with 15-”05 of our energy, but it is helping. Frequently you will here of a school who’ve just installed a wind turbine and are making money buy selling the electric back to the grid.

Re-newable energy will save our children…. fossil fuels just won’t!

I believe in renewable energy. Especially in solar and windmills–saves alot of money and risks of our powerplants being a war target. We save energy @ our company by using energy efficient light bulbs in our offices. I also believe that saving energy saves time, money and resources.

Deregulation of utilities can work if there are enough available options for consumers. If not, then it can end up much like attempted deregulation of traffic: remove the stop lights and signs, speed limits and warning signals, state police overseers and toll booths and what would you have?

Regulation of any industry is basically government interference. Anytime government is involved in any business, prices will increase. Take the government hand out and let the market dictate what is right and fair and competition will dictate price.

We live in Texas and have found the de-regulation to be a huge benefit. We’ve switched providers 3 times already though because they electricity companies often have a fixed rate and then after a certain amount of time, that rate skyrockets up. We learned the hard way to monitor that closely last summer when we had a bill over $1000 for our electricity.

I think we should go for deregulation of the electricity….cheaper and cost effective.

De-regulation is a bad idea. Its no good for poor people.

When I lived in the US (AR + VA) it always bothered me to be at the mercy of only one electricity company. I also couldn’t understand it since my home country Germany has had national, deregulated power for many years. Furthermore there’s the choice between many different electricity types, nuclear, wind, solar, water etc. I’m back in Germany now and am enjoying my “green” energy.

Unfortunately I dont think deregulation is the way to cheaper energy. Most public companies benefit by have the stricter rules in place to control expenses.

Deregulation is long overdue. Its healthy business sense and encourages competition, so its a win win for the end user.

We’ve had deregulation for a long time in the UK and it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Even though there’s competition they (the companies) seem to be operating some king of price fix.

Our prices are high across the board and not coming down anytime soon, although wholesale energy prices to the uk have dropped drastically lately.

I would do a little more research on the author before buying the book. Changing to an electric car is a great way to save money and help the environment at the same time. In order to save even more money, consider making your home more efficient and changing electricity suppliers. Everything we can do to lower our bills can help us survive during difficult times, plus everything we can do to lower our usage can help our planet survive as well.

Lots of things are deregulated but it takes an active consumer to seek it out. Most people don’t even bother to look at their monthly bank statements. I can’t imagine they would seek out the best prices for electricity.

While de-regulation is great, watch out for companies looking to get you to switch providers then jack up the price (much like what happens with telephone services with the door-to-door scams).

this is all economics theory, by introducing competition like this hopefully monopoly rents will be removed. sometimes this works, sometimes it can result in a detioration of quality or service as the bottom line becomes ever more important to the service provider.

De-regulation should have been started long time ago but hey, it’s still a good thing that it happened. In my country, we’re forced to be serviced by only one provider so we really can’t do anything with regards to monopolizing and other similar negative experiences.

Deregulation has certianly been good for people here in the UK and has lowered prices and improved service.

I hope to God they get us some help in Maryland. I live in the Baltimore area, and our electricity costs an arm and a leg. I have a 2 bedroom condo, that I am rarely in, and it costs me nearly $200 a month in electricity! And I keep the heat at 70 degrees!

Right now there is a lawsuit against them for price gouging, but I am not holding my breath
