In the past, electricity supply was a monopoly in Texas and consumers were not able to choose their preferred provider. Regulation of any industry is basically government interference. Anytime government is involved in any business, prices will increase. Take the government hand out and let the market dictate what is right and fair and competition will dictate price.
Deregulation is always a good idea in my opinion.
De-regulation can be an excellent option, but can lead to the mis-selling of products in the battle to secure business.

Well, we all know what deregulation of energy did to California. The prices actually went up and we bought a bunch of energy from other states. So, I’m not sure if it is a good thing or not.

We live in Texas and have found the de-regulation to be a huge benefit. We’ve switched providers 3 times already though because they electricity companies often have a fixed rate and then after a certain amount of time, that rate skyrockets up. We learned the hard way to monitor that closely last summer when we had a bill over $1000 for our electricity.
I think we should go for deregulation of the electricity….cheaper and cost effective.
De-regulations of electricity is the trends nowadays, other cities need to be follow.

De-regulation is a bad idea. Its no good for poor people.
When I lived in the US (AR + VA) it always bothered me to be at the mercy of only one electricity company. I also couldn’t understand it since my home country Germany has had national, deregulated power for many years. Furthermore there’s the choice between many different electricity types, nuclear, wind, solar, water etc. I’m back in Germany now and am enjoying my “green” energy.

Unfortunately I dont think deregulation is the way to cheaper energy. Most public companies benefit by have the stricter rules in place to control expenses.
Deregulation is long overdue. Its healthy business sense and encourages competition, so its a win win for the end user.
If this goes anything like it did in the UK then be prepared for numerous knocks on your from people (sales) trying to get you to change providers.
Indeen quite a few companies just signed people over even if they did not want to!!

We’ve had deregulation for a long time in the UK and it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Even though there’s competition they (the companies) seem to be operating some king of price fix.
Our prices are high across the board and not coming down anytime soon, although wholesale energy prices to the uk have dropped drastically lately.
I believe converting a car to electricity is a great idea. It’s important to take a variety of sources in order to come up with best practice techniques. I would do a little more research on the author before buying the book. Changing to an electric car is a great way to save money and help the environment at the same time. In order to save even more money, consider making your home more efficient and changing electricity suppliers. Everything we can do to lower our bills can help us survive during difficult times, plus everything we can do to lower our usage can help our planet survive as well.
De-regulation has really worked well in Texas. Now hopefully it will spread in other parts of the world also.

Lots of things are deregulated but it takes an active consumer to seek it out. Most people don’t even bother to look at their monthly bank statements. I can’t imagine they would seek out the best prices for electricity.
While de-regulation is great, watch out for companies looking to get you to switch providers then jack up the price (much like what happens with telephone services with the door-to-door scams).

De regulation is a good idea that will give Texans a choice. That’s whats needed to increase customer service.
this is all economics theory, by introducing competition like this hopefully monopoly rents will be removed. sometimes this works, sometimes it can result in a detioration of quality or service as the bottom line becomes ever more important to the service provider.
De-regulation should have been started long time ago but hey, it’s still a good thing that it happened. In my country, we’re forced to be serviced by only one provider so we really can’t do anything with regards to monopolizing and other similar negative experiences.

Deregulation has certianly been good for people here in the UK and has lowered prices and improved service.
I hope to God they get us some help in Maryland. I live in the Baltimore area, and our electricity costs an arm and a leg. I have a 2 bedroom condo, that I am rarely in, and it costs me nearly $200 a month in electricity! And I keep the heat at 70 degrees!
Right now there is a lawsuit against them for price gouging, but I am not holding my breath

De-regulation is a wonderful thing. Nothing like a little bit of competition to spur innovation. Also, it’s a great feeling not to be stuck with one provider.
