One Stop Shopping with ShopWiki

I love internet shopping; I can sit here in my pajamas and order practically anything I want. However, sometimes finding exactly what I want is difficult; it can be frustrating having to search around the sites. Maybe In fact shopping around online amounts to the cyber version of driving from store to store. I don’t burn gas, but I do burn energy. Why doesn’t someone come up with an internet version of the mall? They did, and I found it!

Hello ShopWiki.com! Talk about your one stop shop. From what I understand, the site works kind of like Google in the sense that they use crawlers to find every store on the web. They don’t sell advertising to clients, so there is no favoritism in their listings. They just list what they find, and they find a lot. They even have buying guides that are almost like having a sales clerk right there helping you find what you want. There are gift guides and “green” guides too.

Check this out;

Let’s take a general subject like skin care. What are you looking for? How about acne treatments? They tell you just about anything you need to know about acne treatments and then tell you about the products available and where you can get them.

The site also tells you about organic health and beauty products, the history behind the movement, the ingredients and the companies. They do a product spotlight of the more popular brands, then give a listing of links to the different brands (there are tons), and then links to related information, such as an articles relating to “high concern” and a link to the product safety commission.

For the man in your life they have razors, and brushes , they even explain about the different product types based on skin types, and warn about fragrances, and overpriced products. Then once again they give product lists, related buying guides, and external links. I had to snicker a little at some of the comments left next to the brand names. Check it out; you’ll see what I mean J

You can learn, search, shop and buy all in one place. Back on the home page there is a product browser that lets you to shop by manufacturer. Keeping with the skin care line, let’s say I want to find Lancome. I go to “L” in the product finder. Scroll down till I find Lancome and then click on it. Wow! Five hundred products by Lancome! This is fun. If I had time, I could spend all day “window shopping” in here. What a great site!

Yes, the Internet has several really good shopping mall sites available.

However, I have never found a site better for vintage Lego and model railroading than ToysPeriod.

It is amazing the knowledge that is necessary, for example, to build a truly realistic train layout. There are hundreds of glues and woods and scenic techniques to know, and when I go to the mall, the ONLY thing that is lacking is that deep knowledge.

Oh, the goods are there, and if one is shopping for a shirt or a dress, all well and good.

But, don’t expect to find deep knowledge regarding toys in ToysRUs. That isn’t what malls are all about.

Chains are good for what they provide, variety and convenience.

But, I think eventually the main benefit of the internet is NOT going to be to duplicate the mall experience, but rather to introduce vendors into our lives with deep knowledge, that we would not be able to locate in a million years if we had to drive around to find that expertise.

That’s why I patronize ToysPeriod. They are the best at what they do, and I am grateful that I can deal with them rather than being forced to deal with mall stores whose employee turnovers and knowledge is simply passing through.

I am just a customer. However, I love to support business like ToysPeriod for two reasons:

    1) There are environmental benefits for shopping with them; and,

2)They have deep knowledge in their chosen product and service areas.

ToysPeriod is a leading online shop specializing in lego sets and model railroad equipment.

Never heard of it! Seems like Amazon has the shopping market cornered. I’ll have to check this out, thanks for the tip!

    Love this site!

  • Loaner says:

That’s pretty cool. Did you see over at the right where you can choose what stores? So if you want to see what’s *not* on Amazon or eBay because you already looked at them, you can just check the other boxes and look at everyplace else.

  • Cool thing. I will try it. Much to often it just happens “click” and the money is off…

    is a great store

  • ShopWiki is interesting! I love online shopping because of the convenience, and I’m guilty of going on crazy shopping sprees because everything is just click-click-click, and the whole process is so easy!

  • Trust seals says:

I think one very important aspect of any shopping website is the trust factor. Sometimes I come across websites that I’ve never heard of before, and they don’t convey that sense of trust that I need to continue shopping on their site. This is when I leave, and go back to Google to search for similar shops. It’ll be great if on top of the comments, ShopWiki uses a rating system or some sort of review system as well.

A very important thing to consider when shopping online with Shop Wiki is your credit card, and the Rewards you should be getting from it.

If you’re putting a lot of money on your card you really want to think about Rewards and Frequent Flyer points. So many people who spend online miss out on these points which always end up saving you a lot of money over time.

So if you’re shopping online a lot, make sure you’re not missing out on credit card Frequent Flyer points.

  • Shopwiki! I better check it out! I love shopping online than going to the mall. For me, it saves time and energy :)
